January 2007:
January 23rd was a special day for all of us who care so deeply about Eastern Michigan University.  Faculty, students, alumni, staff and members of the media crammed into the Regents' Conference Room that day to hear President Fallon announce the launce of the first major capital construction project on Eastern Michigan’s campus in over a decade.  It was exhilarating to see so many members of the EMU community gathered to share in this important moment.

President Fallon had the honor to announce that the newly appointed EMU Board of Regents had unanimously voted to proceed with the renovation of the Mark Jefferson science building.  To be renamed the Mark Jefferson Science Complex, the $100 million renovation will require the remodeling of 180,000 square feet of existing building and 150,000 square feet of new construction.  The project will be funded entirely by the University.

The new building will provide a wide mix of laboratories and classroom spaces necessary to expand and improve the university’s science curriculum and keep EMU competitive among peer institutions.  The project is essential if EMU is to remain a world-class, comprehensive university.
