The Eastern Michigan University Office of Government
Relations is currently pursuing approximately
$40 million dollars in state capital outlay
funding for the renovation and modernization
of the Pray-Harrold main classroom building. First
constructed in 1969, the Pray-Harrold building
requires major renovations to remain compatible
with the instructional needs of a world-class,
comprehensive university.
The project will reconfigure the second and
third floors of the building to provide modern
computing and advising facilities and space
for studying and student interaction. The
upper floors will be reconfigured to focus on
strategically designed classroom space, faculty
student areas for consultations, study groups,
and faculty offices and facilities.
Other essential elements of the project include:
- An addition that will accommodate large
classroom and lecture spaces and student common
areas.
- Addition of new technology components to
enhance the learning environment.
- Upgrade of the existing infrastructure to
meet the future demands for the facility.
- A covered walkway connecting Pray-Harrold
with the College of Education Building to
allow for shared utilization of laboratories
and common places.
The total estimated cost of the Pray-Harrold
modernization is $53 million. EMU will
finance the remaining portion of the project
through the sale of bonds that are supported
through tuition and fee revenue.
