Oral Presenter Tips and Guidelines

Using the Presentation Equipment

Provided:

EMU will provide a computer and projector in each presentation room. The digital presentation files you provided the Graduate School, prior to the submission deadline, will be pre-loaded into the presentation room’s laptops.

The provided computers will be running:  —Windows 7 / Microsoft Office 2013

Not Provided:

Amplified audio equipment is not available in each room. Also, computer networking CANNOT be guaranteed for each room, so plan your presentation to function without an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection.

Please Note:  You may NOT use your own laptop or projector

PowerPoint Creation Tips

PowerPoint files are usually interchangeable between the Mac & Windows platform. To insure maximum compatibility, please observe the following creation tips:

  • Create your presentation using the latest version of MS Office.
  • It is STRONGLY recommended that you be sure your presentation uses only fonts universally found on all computer systems (e.g. Helvetica, Times, Arial). Presentations using unusual fonts may not display correctly.
  • Multi-media elements (e.g. audio or video) in your presentation may NOT be supported on the EMU provided computer, and may not run.
  • Saving your PowerPoint file as a PowerPoint show (.pps or .ppsx) rather than the default PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt or .pptx) is recommended. Your presentation starts up and ends more cleanly.

PLAN AHEAD, and TEST

Take a moment to TEST your presentation on a different computer than the one used to create it, before you submit your presentation files. Be certain that your presentation works on the latest version of MS Office, and looks correct on other platforms.

ALL PRESENTATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY NOON, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2014.
