Meet the EMU Habitat for Humanity/Eagles Nest Project Officer Team here!
What is the Eagles Nest Project?
The Eagles Nest Project (ENP), a partnership of Eastern Michigan University (through the VISION office in the EMU Student Center) and Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, is a historic campus-wide effort to build a Habitat for Humanity home in the Ypsilanti community. It will take a mixture of fundraising, marketing, volunteer recruiting, and ultimately constructing in order to generate a house through the program from ground to roof.
What will is take to complete this venture?
There are two steps:
- Step 1: At least $65,000 must be raised, which pays mostly for the construction materials. Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley (HFHHV) takes care of the other costs, typically associated with building permits, professional staff, and other items, through their ongoing fundraising throughout the year.
- Step 2: The home is constructed with the help of volunteers ranging from students to professionals.
|
Where will the money ($65,000) come from?
Students, staff, faculty, and administrators as well as community members and local businesses will work together to raise the money in creative ways. Many fundraisers of varying depths and magnitudes have already taken place, are currenty in operation, or are planned to occur in the near future. |
When does the construction happen?
First we have to raise the amount of $65,000, then we will sign the official sponsor contract with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, our professional affiliate. Once all the paperwork is signed and ready, we will be building shortly after. Our timeline goal is to have the house built during the fall of 2007. Everyone will be invited to take part in the construction of the home, carpentry experience or not!
Where is the home going to be built?
While we are not sure the exact location of the home as of yet, we are working through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley to build within the city limits of Ypsilanti, the host city of our university, Eastern Michigan University.
Who will be moving into the home once it is built?
Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley takes care of the family selection process, lot purchase, and permit acquisition, and currently the specifics are unknown to us. Once we get closer to the fundraising goal of $65,000 we will be able to solidify our sponsorship, know the location of the house and meet the family who will be moving into it. For more information on the family selection process and other official policies and procedures, visit the Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley website. |
What can you do to help with the project?
There are many things you can do to help!
You can donate directly to the Eagles Nest Project. We accept cash or checks (written out to Eastern Michigan University with Habitat for Humanity or Eagles Nest Project in the Memo line). Our mailing address is:
Eagles Nest Project/EMU Habitat for Humanity
VISION office
EMU Student Center Room 346
Ypsilanti, MI 48197
Whether large or small, any contribution is greatly appreciated.
The project is in need of leaders to take on the planning and execution of fundraisers. There are resources available for anyone (EMU or community) to volunteer to develop an event or campaign. Volunteering as a fundraiser chair is a great way to enhance and develop leadership and interpersonal relations skils through practical experience! Check out our main page to see when our next general volunteer meeting is scheduled for. At these meetings, we discuss fundraiser planning and development, and everyone is invited!
There is a project email list of which listed peoples periodically receive emails regarding volunteer opportunities, project updates, and other news regarding the ENP. If you are interested in receiving these emails, please contact vis_h4h@emich.edu with the subject line "LIST ADD".
For specific volunteer needs, please visit the VOLUNTEERS page of the site.
*NOTE: For all those hammer-happy builders out there, we will be asking for many volunteers when it comes time to build, and there will be ample opportunities for everyone to be involved in the building process.
