Events: Pumpkin Decorating Contest & Penny Wars
October 27, 2005
Pictures

What it was:

Anyone could purchase a pumpkin for a donation of $5 to the project. The pumpkins were then carved, painted, and decorated in many different ways, and returned for the actual competition.

To increase participation, a 'Carving Party' was held on Oct. 26 in the Student Organization Center where materials and fun were available.

A "Penny Wars" was held on Oct. 27th to decide the winner as well as raise more money for the project.

The type of money donated into the jars next to each pumpkin dictated how many "votes" a pumpkin received.

Pennies and Paper (dollars) were worth positive votes (ex. one penny = 1 vote, one dollar = 100 votes)
Silver Stuff (nickels, dimes, quarters) were worth negative votes (ex. one nickel = 5 negative votes)

At the end of the day the money was counted and votes were tallied.

Total from Pumpkin Sale ($5 per pumpkin) = $119 (extra donations included)
Total from Penny Wars = $332.33
Overall Total Raised = $451.33

Total Number of Pennies = 5,807
Number of Contest Participants = 17
