Library Copyright Policy and Guidelines
The
Bruce T. Halle Library at Eastern Michigan University follows
all federal copyright laws and guidelines. For specific copyright
information please see the links provided below.
Photocopying
and other reproductions in the Halle Library is regulated by
Title 17, United States Code, which governs the making of photocopies
or other reproductions of copyrighted materials:
"Under
certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives
are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or
reproduction is not to be "used for any prupose other
than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user
makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction
for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may
be liable for copyright infringement."
Halle reserves
the right to refuse any copying order if, in its judgment, fulfullment
of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.
Course Reserve
materials are covered by Section 107 of the Copyright Law. See Reserve
Procedures and Guidelines for more information.
Multimedia
materials are also protected under the Copyright Law. Possession
of a film or video does not include the right to show the work.
Section 110(1) of the Copyright Act of 1976 creates an exception
to the copyright holder's exculsive right of performance. See Using
