Resources
not-owned by the EMU Library might be obtained more quickly by
taking advantage of the following alternatives:
- EMU faculty
have borrowing privileges at all state-supported universities
and colleges, including The University of Michigan.
- Your local
public library can obtain materials owned by other libraries
through interlibrary loan.
- Michigan
residents who want to directly borrow materials from a regionally
convenient library other than their local public library
can read about the MichiCard
state-wide library card project. The list of
participating libraries ranges from the smallest public library
to the collections of the Wayne State University Libraries
and the Michigan State University Libraries.
- The Michigan
eLibrary Catalog, MeLCat,
is a catalog of the book, audio, and video holdings of about 140
Michigan libraries. If you've searched the EMU Library catalog and found
that an item is either not owned or is checked out to another user, you can
search MeLCat. If you find the item in MeLCat, and it is marked as available
for loan, you can request that it be sent to the EMU Library for loan to you.
Perhaps just as interesting, if your local public library participates in MeLCat,
and if you have (or obtain) a library card from that library, you can request
that the item be sent to that local library for checkout by you. NOTE: At the
present time, journals and journal articles are NOT available for loan via
MeLCat.
As of July
1, 2008, EMU has replaced all previous reciprocal borrowing agreements, including
INFOPASS, with the Visiting Patron Reciprocal Borrowing Service provided by
MeL. EMU students, staff and faculty may visit any other participating
library and borrow materials in person by presenting the EMU ID. Materials
borrowed through this service may be returned either to the original library
or at the EMU Circulation Desk. The original library sets the due date
and overdue fines or fees. Check the list
of participating libraries before
you plan your library visit.
- If you are taking a class at one of the following regional centers, the Halle Library has established agreements with them allowing EMU students to use their libraries and services. You can use the regional library to order BOOKS through interlibrary loan. Books will be sent to the regional library for your use within the library's policies.
- While some doctoral dissertations are available through interlibrary loan,
most all dissertations may be purchased directly from ProQuest.
