Gain the power to simultaneously search several databases.
MultiSearch is available at
http://metalib.emich.edu.
Off-Campus users should Login before searching.
You may want to use MultiSearch to:
- save time by searching multiple databases at once.
-
search for something obscure that may produce few results in any one database.
- search an interdisciplinary topic.
- find a database that has many articles on your topic.
MultiSearch may NOT be very useful for:
- searches of common keywords that will yield very large results.
- sophisticated searches that you can do in a database's native interface
Tips:
- A MultiSearch will take longer than a search in a single database.
More Databases = Longer Search
- Use the navigation links and avoid the browser back button.
- Get full text by using the
button.
- QuickSearch queries a predefined set of databases.
- Use the MultiSearch menu option to create customized sets of databases.
- Only a portion of the results are first retrieved.
To enlarge the result set click on "Retrieve More".
- Results from databases labeled "Search and Link" must be viewed in the native interface.
Use the View link to do so.
Caveats:
-
MultiSearch does not work with all EMU databases.
- MultiSearch does not search the same way in each database.
- There may be duplicate citations in your results.
- Results are sorted by relevancy.
- When you use Retrieve More the new results are interfiled with the previous set. These citations are displayed in Bold.
Help:
- Ask a Librarian for help with MultiSearch or for general advice on your search.
