The Winter
2007 survey of EMU undergraduates regarding library resources and
services indicated that students want more recreational
fiction and nonfiction books available in the Library.
Unfortunately, at this time the Library's budget and Collection
Development Policy do not currently support the purchase of leisure
reading as part of the Library collections. A new option became available
to the EMU community during 2007...
Obtain recreational reading, listening (CDs), and video materials
via the Michigan eLibrary Catalog, MeLCat.
MeLCat lets
you search at one time the catalogs of over 140 Michigan libraries
for books, CDs, and videos. If an item is available for lending from
one of those libraries, it will be delivered to the EMU library for your
use within 3 to 5 days of your request.
For example, if you are seeking:
- a
book about knitting
- an instructional video that illustrates knitting
techniques
- a book to help you learn Mandarin Chinese
- audio material to help your conversational Mandarin Chinese
- David Anthony Durham's fantasy novel Acacia
MeLCat can
offer a range of material that the Library's budget does not allow
us to purchase ourselves. A brief, illustrated introduction
to using Melcat can be found on the Library web site.
