Instructions for Transferring
Citations |
Direct Export into RefWorks
- Mark the records you want to import and click Export
Citations.
- Select either All documents or Only these documents for the Marked records.
- Select Citations + Abstracts to export the record's abstracts.
- Select the RefWorks Direct Export and click Export.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Save as Text File and Import into RefWorks
In ScienceDirect:
- Conduct a search and select citations to save by clicking the check box
to the left of each citation
- Click the export citations button at the top of the bibliography
- Following Export:, change the drop-down menu to read Citations
+ Abstracts
- Leave the default File Format: RIS Format
- Click the Export button
- You will be prompted to either Open with [either
a program name OR browse for program name] or Save to disk the
file (which is already named and is a text file)
- If you select Open with you will have
to choose an editor to view the file, e.g., NotePad, MS Word
- Click the OK button
- From the File menu, select Save As. Save
your file as a text file (with a .txt extension) [not a .doc extension] to
the location of your choice (e.g. desktop)
In RefWorks
- Login to your RefWorks database
- Select References/Import from
the toolbar
- Select ScienceDirect (RIS Format) as the
Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple
Databases> as
the database
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer
- Click Import
- Your citation(s) will be imported into the Last Imported
Folder. You may now move them into the folder of your choice
