RefWorks - SilverPlatter
Instructions for Transferring Citations

Databases:
Philosopher's Index
Social Work Abstracts

Direct Export to Refworks

  1. Conduct a search and select the records you want by clicking the check box next to each citation
  2. Click the Save icon (right side of screen just above the citation list; looks like computer disk)
  3. Toward the top of the screen, click the radio button preceding Export to RefWorks
  4. Under Save or Export these records: select Marked records (Note that by default, marked records are cleared, i.e., no longer marked, after they are exported. You might want to 'uncheck' this default so you can compare and review the database information with the information that is transferred into RefWorks.)
  5. Under Save these fields: select Complete Record
  6. Under Also save: be sure you have Record number checked and Field names with: Short labels selected
  7. Click the OK button (toward top, right side of screen)
  8. Log into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in the Last Imported Folder

Save as Text File and Import into RefWorks 

In SilverPlatter indexes:

  1. Conduct a search and select the records you want by clicking the check box to the left of each citation
  2. Click the Save icon (right side of screen just above the citation list; looks like computer disk)
  3. Make sure radio button to the left of Save to disk is selected
  4. Under Save or Export these records: select Marked records (Note that by default, marked records are cleared, i.e., no longer marked, after they are exported. You might want to 'uncheck' this default so you can compare and review the database information with the information that is transferred into RefWorks.)
  5. Under Save these fields: select Complete Record
  6. Under Also save: be sure you have Record number checked and Field names with: Short labels selected
  7. Click the OK button (toward top, right side of screen)
  8. Save your file as a text file (with a .txt extension) to the location of your choice (e.g. desktop)

In RefWorks

  1. Login to your RefWorks database
  2. Select References/Import from the toolbar
  3. Select SilverPlatter WEBSPIRS as the Import Filter/Data Source and select the appropriate database
  4. Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer
  5. Click Import
  6. Your citation(s) will be imported into the Last Imported Folder. You may now move them into the folder of your choice
