Biography:
Professor Ramold specializes in nineteenth century U.S. History, Military History, and Cultural History. He teaches a range of courses including U.S. Military History, History of World War II, History of American Sports, and the Civil War and Reconstruction. He also leads a Civil War Tour course that visits a number of Civil War battlefields and historical sites every summer.

Dr. Ramold’s primary research area is also in the Civil War, where he has written a number of articles, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews. His first book, Slaves, Sailors, Citizens: African Americans in the Union Navy appeared in 2002, and he is currently finishing a book on criminal justice and discipline in the Union Army.
