| Biography:

|
Dr. Whitters has written 14 articles for juried publications such as Harvard Theological Review, Irish Theological Quarterly, Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Journal for the Study of Judaism, and Journal for the Study of the Pseudepigraphia. Past research topics were in the area of cognate literature to the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. He has given numerous papers at ancient philology conferences and religious studies meetings. Currently he is regional president for the Society of Biblical Literature, for whom he is organizing a conference in Chicago entitled 'Social Identity and Texts: the Jews' (Feb 12-14, 2010). Lately he has published his research on the roots of martyrdom in the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian traditions, and he continues to work at his Arabic.
Whitters has traveled throughout the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern world for extensive periods of time, and has passed proficiency exams in Hebrew and Arabic. He currently lives in Detroit where he is involved with interracial dialogue and urban youth programs. He is a founding member of Detroit Community Outreach, a neighborhood educational and charitable program, and a steering committee member and speaker for a network of Detroit churches called “Men at the Church of Detroit” [MATCOD].
