Changes to the History and Social Studies Teaching Majors and Minors Coming This Fall

If you are already admitted to the Initial Teacher Preparation Program and are planning to student teach during the winter term of 2013 or before, these changes will not affect you – you can continue following the program of study that you began. We would advise that you should take and pass your MTTC subject tests in History or Social Studies no later than the Summer of 2013.

Any student who has not been admitted to the Initial Teacher Preparation Program by September 1, 2012 will have to complete the new programs. Please make contact with the advisors in History & Philosophy before registering for your fall classes, through the special sessions below or by scheduling an appointment.

Even if you are admitted to the Initial Teacher Preparation Program by September 1, if you are not going to complete your program by April, 2013, you need to be in contact with the advisors in History & Philosophy so that you can insure your successful completion of whichever program you are in and your successful passing of the MTTC subject tests. Take advantage of the sessions below.

A key issue in these changes is that the MTTC subject tests in Social Studies and History will be changing, beginning with the Fall 2013 administrations of those exams. The new programs align with the outcomes that are being tested by the new MTTC subject tests. Students completing the old program but taking the new test may be un-prepared.
