There are numerous scholarships and awards available to undergraduate and graduate students.  All students are encouraged to apply for financial assistance.

Richard Henry “Hank” Abbott Memorial Endowed
This scholarship is available to full-time graduate students in History and history majors.

Richard David Goff (Endowed)
This scholarship is available to graduate students in History completing their last 15 credit hours who are pursuing a Master’s of Arts in History (with Thesis).  It is awarded to students based on the quality of their thesis proposal and History GPA.  The thesis proposal must be approved by the Graduate History adviser and is only awarded once per student.

Esther Barnard
This scholarship is available to undergraduate History/Social Science majors and is renewable.

Fred J. Ericson
This scholarship is available to undergraduate History majors who are seniors.  A single-year scholarship, awards are determined by the History Section and selected during the Spring semester for the ensuing year.

Marilyn R. Hill
This scholarship is available to graduate students enrolled in the Travel Study Program sponsored by the History Section or in the Graduate Program in History and is for either tuition or travel expenses.  It is awarded based on the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  If there are no qualified graduate students, the scholarship can be awarded to a qualified undergraduate student.

Neil McLarty (Merit Award)
This scholarship is available to undergraduate History majors and minors who are juniors and seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Preference is given to applicants who have excelled in the study of English history.  Students must be enrolled full-time during at least on semester of the academic years.  Awards are determined by the Department Head and the Scholarship Committee.

Elizabeth Warren
This scholarship is available to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in History and other coursework.  Recipients must be enrolled full time, have completed at least 12 credit hours at EMU, and at least 9 credit hours of History if a junior or 15 credit hours of History if a senior.  Awards are determined by the History Section who are to look for students who exhibit better than average competence in writing abilities as attested by letters of reference from the faculty.

George R. York
This scholarship is available to juniors and seniors with academic standing sufficient to be placed on the Dean’s List or who have demonstrated a comparable indication of academic excellence.  Awards are determined by the History Section and granted to students with demonstrable financial need.
