Dr. Williams' personal areas of interest include adult and family literacy, the role of movement and art in literacy education, place-based environmental education, and the intersections of gender, race, and class with literacy opportunity and development. She focuses her teaching philosophy on working to facilitate informative and transformative learning experiences in the classroom and in the field, both in the Department of Teacher Education and in the Honors College. She has been the recipient of a King-Chavez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowship (2003); the Dean's Award for Innovative Teaching (2010) and the Dale Rice Award for Outstanding Academic Service Learning Community Partnership (2012).
