Scholarships
Honors students receive many of the university's merit-based scholarships. In addition, the Honors College awards a variety of fellowships and grants to support undergraduate research, study abroad, the senior thesis, and conference travel.
Honors Undergraduate Fellowship
The Undergraduate Fellowship supports Honors student undergraduate research through competitive grants of $2000 that support individual research with a faculty member. Typically, 20 awards are granted in both fall and winter semesters and 5 in summer. Applications are reviewed by a faculty awards committee. Eligible students will have completed 56 credit hours and be enrolled full-time as an Honors College member in good standing. Download details and application: Fellowship (.pdf)
Senior Thesis Award
The Senior Thesis Award recognizes the significant achievement of Honors students upon completion of the senior thesis or project. Each year 12 or more thesis awards of $2,000 each are granted following competitive review by faculty. Eligible students must be registered for the senior thesis during the award year. Founder's Award
The Founder's Award was created by the founding Director of the Honors College, Dr. Robert Holkeboer for the purpose of encouraging and supporting study abroad and experiential learning. Awards of $500 are granted competitively to one or more students each academic year. Eligible students are members of the Honors College in good standing who have completed 55 credit hours toward graduation. Download details and application: Founder's Award (.pdf)
Susan and John Ullrich Endowed Scholarship
The Susan and John Ullrich Endowed Scholarship was created to honor an Eastern Michigan University student for leadership outside of the student's course of normal study. The Honors College selects the recipient, but applicants need not be members of the College. Eligible students will be a junior or senior who maintains a 3.0 GPA. The $500 award is given annually. Gene Helms Award
The Gene Helms Award was created to support study abroad in Florence & Rome. Each year 1-2 awards of $800-$1,000 are granted through competitive application. Eligible students are Honors College members in good standing. Download details and application: Gene Helms (.doc)
