Eastern Michigan University
There are three components to University Honors: Honors academic credits, community service, and Honors Experiences.
University Honors is a great way for a student to get involved and introduced to EMU's campus and community. To achieve University Honors students must complete Honors credits: 18 credits must be General Education courses, 3 credits must be taken in the major or minor, and the remaining 3 credits may be in the major, minor, or General Education. Honors students typically prefer to take as many General Education Honors courses as possible, and most students take two or more Honors courses per semester.
The Honors College is strongly committed to the value of community service; Honors students engage in a wide variety of community and on-campus service projects. Although our students typically exceed our required amount of hours, in order to graduate with University Honors, a student must complete 40 hours of community service by the time they graduate.
EMU Honors students are very involved individuals. They assume leadership positions, organize events, present research at conferences, attend our annual trip to Stratford, and study abroad. All of these are considered Honors Experiences. In order to complete University Honors, students must complete both a Leadership/Civic Engagement Honors Experience and a Cultural/Intellectual Honors Experience.
