Apply for Winter 2010

Winter 2010

The Housing Office welcomes all newly admitted students for the 2010 winter semester to consider living on campus. Residence hall living offers convenience to classes, an environment conducive to meeting other students and an opportunity to get involved in on campus activities.

Commuters sometimes find that winter semester can cause frustration dealing with changing weather conditions making commuting to campus and finding available parking a challenge at best. Students living on campus can enjoy sleeping in a little longer and have a leisurely breakfast, while their commuting counterparts are struggling with road conditions and minimal parking once they arrive on campus. Plus, living on campus is fun. Meeting new people and getting involved in the numerous clubs and activities on campus all contribute to a successful collegiate experience.

We encourage you to first review our residence hall options and then complete the on-line contract. Once the information has been entered online, you have the option of making the $200 prepayment o n-line, or printing the completed contract and mailing it with your payment. Do not send a check without sending the contract at the same time as this will cause an improper application of the prepayment to occur. Receipt date is determined by the date that both the contract AND the $200 prepayment are received. An assignment will not be made if payment is not received. If returning by mail, the contract and payment can be sent to:

Eastern Michigan University Cashier's Office
201 Pierce Hall
Ypsilanti, MI  48197

Contractual Information

Please read the Terms and Conditions before completing the contract.

The contract is in effect for the duration of the winter semester. Once a student moves into the hall, they remain financially obligated for the remainder of the semester.  An enrolled student will not be released to move to off campus housing or to commute from home.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have the funds to cover the cost of room and board before committing to the contract.

Contract Deadline

December 15, 2009 is the deadline for submitting a contract for the winter semester.  The university is offically closed for the holiday break from December 23rd until January 4th and there will be no mail delivery during that time.  Please ensure that any mailed contracts are sent early enough to permit arrival at the university by the December 15 deadline.

Contracts received after December 15 will not be assigned until the start of the winter semester.

Room Assignments

A student who submits a contract and prepayment will be assigned into whatever space is available.

Preferences for a hall program, type of room, or roommate can be requested on the contract, however, the student must understand that the Housing Office is not always able to honor nor guarantee the requests that a student makes due to space limitations.  A student who requests a single room will not receive one if there are no single rooms available.  As well, a student may not receive their hall or roommate preference if there is not space available to accommodate the specific request.

If a student receives an assignment that the student did not request, it will not be considered a reason for obtaining a refund of the prepayment should the student decide not to accept the assignment.  Please consider this carefully before submitting a contract.

Assignments are made in the order that they are received and students are encouraged to apply early.

All residence halls are smoke-free.  Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the buildings.

Assignment Notification

Assignments are made after the fall semester ends once all available open spaces have been identified and confirmed.

Room information for those who submit a contract before the December 15 deadline, will be sent via e-mail to the student's EMU email address on December 23rd.

Cancellations

Incoming students who submit a contract for the winter semester have until December 15, 2009 to cancel the contract and receive a full credit of the $200 prepayment.

Cancellations received AFTER December 15th will result in a forfeiture of the full $200, regardless of the reason.  Contracts submitted after December 15 are subject to the same cancellation forfeiture.

A request for cancellation must be sent by e-mail to housing@emich.edu.  A response will be sent acknowledging receipt of your cancellation.

Cancellations cannot be accepted by phone.

Winter Move-In

Residence halls will open for the winter semester at 9:00am on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

Classes begin on Wednesday, January 6th.
