What students should do to maximize their safety and diminish the prospects of an accident:

• Please use the posted crosswalks, follow the signed pathways, and stay out of fenced construction sites.
• Never—day or night—walk in the street along construction fencing.
• Pedestrians have the right-of-way once they’ve entered a crosswalk, but should always pay attention to oncoming traffic.
• Pedestrians and bicyclists often share the sidewalk in construction zones where streets are narrowed or obstructed.
• Pay attention to surroundings, especially when talking on a cell phone or wearing earphones.
• Report unsafe conditions (street lights out; signage vandalized; etc.) to DPS at 7-1222.
