Winter 2013

The Residence Life/Residential Services Office welcomes all newly admitted students for the 2013 Winter semester to consider living on campus. Residence hall living offers convenience to classes, an environment conducive to meeting other students and an opportunity to get involved in on campus activities.

Please review our residence hall options to become familiar with what we have to offer.   You will also want to review dining meal plan options here.

Contract Information

Students are responsible for reading and knowing the Terms and Conditions before completing the contract.

The contract is in effect for the duration of the winter semester. Once a student moves into the hall, they remain financially obligated for the remainder of the semester. Enrolled students are not released to move to off campus housing or to commute from home.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have the funds available to cover the cost of room and board before committing to the contract.

Application Procedures

*  Complete the on-line application.

*  A $200 prepayment is required when submitting the contract.  This includes students who expect to receive financial aid funding.

*  If making payment with cash, check, or money order, print a copy of the contract and take or send together (please do not send cash) with payment to the Cashier's Office located in 201 Pierce Hall.

*  On-line payment can be made using MastCard, DiscoverCard, or American Express.  The University does not accept VISA.  Please note that a service fee wlll be deducted when using a credit card.

*  Contracts will continue to be accepted as long as space is availble.

*  Please note that mail delivery to the University will end on December 20 and will not resume until after the holidays.  If submitting payment by mail, be certain to mail your contract and payment several days before this date to ensure deliverly before the University closes for the holiday break.

*  The date that the application AND prepayment is received establishes the order in which an assignment is made.

Room Assignments

*
A student who submits a contract and prepayment will be assigned into spaces that are available.

*  Preferences for a hall program, type of room, or roommate can be requested, however, the Residence Life Office may not be able to honor nor guarantee the requests that a student makes due to space limitations.  A student who requests a single room will not receive one if there are no single rooms available.  As well, a student may not receive their hall or roommate preference if there is not space available to accommodate the specific request.

*  If an assignment is received that the student did not request, it will not be considered a reason for obtaining a refund of the prepayment should the student decide not to accept the assignment.  Please consider this carefully before submitting a contract.

*  All residence halls are smoke-free.  Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the buildings.

Assignment Notification

*  Assignment information will be emailed to the student's EMU email account as assignments are made.

Contract Cancellations

*  If it becomes necessary to cancel your contract prior to moving in, the request must be made in writing to the Residence Life/Residential Services office at housing@emich.edu using your EMU email account.  Cancellation requests sent from another email address will not be accepted.  Using your EMU email validates your identity and helps reduce the risk of fraudulent requests.  (This applies only to students who will be new for the winter semester).

*  Cancellations, regardless of the reason, must be received prior to the dates listed below to be eligible for a credit of the prepayment:

   Before December 19, 2012  $200 credit

This includes contracts submitted after December 19th.
