Physical Education Minor

Successful completion of this minor, in the context of other program requirements, qualifies the student for recommendation for endorsement in physical education, certification code MB, according to their major area of study (i.e. a secondary education major will receive a secondary education endorsement). The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) covnering this field is No. 44, "Physical Education", and should be taken at the completion of this program.

This program is intended for students interested in a teaching minor for the Secondary Provisional Certificate.

PHED260 Motor Development (2 hrs)
PHED300 Physiology of Exercise (4 hrs)
PHED315 Methods of Teaching Conditioning Activities (2 hrs)
PHED330 Adapted Physical Education (3 hrs)
PHED415 Curriculum and Instruction in Physical Education (3 hrs)

One course from the following:
PHED215 Methods of Teaching Individual Sports (3 hrs)
PHED217 Methods of Teaching Team Sports (3 hrs)

All classes must be passed with a minimum grade of “C”, while all Methods of Teaching courses must be passed with a minimum grade of “B-“.

Physical Education minors must successfully pass the State of Michigan subject matter test #44 in physical education to be certified.  Students are encouraged to take additional courses in physical education to better prepare themselves for this exam.  The exam is not to be taken until all physical education course work is completed.
