Eastern Michigan University's Master's Program in Orthotics and Prosthetics is a five semester program starting in the fall semester and concluding upon the completion of the spring semester approximately eighteen months later.
Admission Requirements
Application Requirements:
- Previous completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an academically accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4 point scale.
- Meet the requirements of Eastern Michigan University’s Graduate School (www.gradschool.emich.edu) and have a completed application on file.
Previous course work must have included:
- 3 hr. Biology a/o Life Sciences with lab
- 6 hr. of Anatomy & Physiology or 5hr. combined course at EMU or WCC
- 3 hr. Chemistry with lab
- 6 hr. Math; College Algebra and Trigonometry or Geometry are recommended
- 3 hr. Physics with lab
- 3 hr. Abnormal Psychology
- 3 hr. Statistics

In addition, The following courses are recommended, but not required:
- Business Management
- Medical Ethics
- Anatomy and Physiology Lab
- Completion of the the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
- Submission of three letters of recommendation. (If you have volunteer experience in an O&P facility, at least one of the letters must be from this source.)
- Submission of a 1200-1500 word essay explaining why you want to become an orthotist-prosthetist and why you wish to attend Eastern Michigan University.
Deadline for submission:
The completed application, transcripts, and all other requirements must be completed and the necessary paperwork received by EMU MSOP no later than the 15th day of February of each year. Notification of class selection will be made no later than the last Friday of March of that year.
Course work will include, in addition to didactic and lab work in each discipline: Material Science, Musculoskeletal Pathologies and Radiology, Gait Analysis, Biomechanics, Research methods, and Business Management. In addition, there are over thirty clinical sites through which students may rotate for clinical affiliation hours.
