As a response to the growing need for health and other service professionals, Eastern Michigan University established the College of Human Services in 1975.

Over the past 24 years, the college has undergone a significant amount of growth. Most recently, the college underwent restructuring, leading to the addition of many new programs. In addition, the college was the first on campus to have departments be designated as professional schools. Since 1975, the college has undergone a significant amount of growth.
