Fee Billing through TIAA-CREF

The Eastern Michigan University Benefits Office is pleased to inform you of a new service that can be utilized for your retirement planning. As you are aware, TIAA-CREF provides free investment advice through individual counseling sessions offered on campus, in their Ann Arbor Office or through their National Contact Center at
1-800-842-2776. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this service offered through TIAA-CREF. We are aware that some employees use the services of external investment advisors. You can now have the fees charged by your qualified external advisors paid directly from your account. Investment advisory fees are recognized as a bona-fide investment expense and plan participants may pay investment advisory fees directly from their retirement savings accumulations only for investment advice relating directly to such accumulations. For example, you pay your financial planner $1,500 per year to maintain your investment account; you can now request that fee to be paid out of your TIAA-CREF account (tax-free) as long as they are a qualified investment advisor. Please contact TIAA-CREF at 1-800-842-2776 if you have any questions. TIAA-CREF is solely responsible for establishing requirements for the Investment Advisory. All completed agreements will be forwarded to TIAA-CREF directly by your advisor.
