Learning & Organizational Development Mission

The Mission of Learning and Organizational Development is to facilitate the development of employee skills and competencies by providing training, professional development and organizational development consulting services that improve individual, team and organizational performance while supporting Eastern Michigan University's Mission and Vision.


How Development Works

We suggest you follow the 70-20-10 formula when planning how to develop new work-related skills and abilities:

70% On-the-Job Experiences: Seek out and take on more demanding assignments and work. This may include volunteering for challenging projects. Or it may mean making recommendations for process improvements within your department.

20% Feedback: Each year, your supervisor will provide you with feedback through a formal performance review. But don't let this be the only time you seek out and receive feedback. As you work on the many challenging assignments EMU has to offer, pursue informal feedback from your colleagues and your supervisor on your strengths and weaknesses. Armed with this knowledge, you can then decide where to focus your professional development efforts.

10% Formal Training: Throughout the year, the Learning & Organizational Development team offers workshops designed to enhance the skills of employees. Some of these programs are conveniently offered online. Login to eTraining for a listing of online courses.

Customized Solutions and Services

Our staff offers a wide spectrum of training and performance improvement services and interventions. Interventions are planned measures designed and developed to overcome job-related challenges.
