The job market for individuals
with credentials in the area of clinical research is very strong,
both within the clinical environment and in the corporate environment.
It is estimated that there are over 10,000 open positions in
this field nationally.
Graduates of the Clinical
Research Administration Program are working in many different
capacities within academia and industry. A Clinical Research
Associate (CRA) is a health professional who oversees the administration
and progress of a clinical trial on behalf of a sponsor. The
sponsor, whose intent is the discovery and development of pharmaceuticals,
biologics or devices, may employ these individuals either directly,
or indirectly via Contract Research Organizations (CRO's) or
independent consultants/contractors. A Clinical Research Coordinator
(CRC) is a health professional (often with a nursing background)
who under the supervision of a physician interacts with patients
and supervises the conduct of clinical trials at a clinical
site.
Eastern Michigan University's
Clinical Research Administration program offers a post-baccalaureate
certificate and a Masters Degree. The certificate program with
its hands-on preceptorship experience is designed to credential
individuals to enter into the field of clinical research. The
Masters degree program incorporates the content of the certificate
and adds program and cognate electives as well as a thesis or
project.
