Dietetics and Human Nutrition
Eastern Michigan University’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) has been graduating entry-level practitioners since 1974. The CPD is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) and is one of only two Coordinated Programs in Dietetics in the State of Michigan!

Registered Dietitians (RD) work with people of all ages to both treat and prevent disease with nutrition therapy. Dietitians are employed in a variety of settings, including community agencies, acute care, long-term care, schools, home health care, business and industry, private practice, research and education.
Eastern Michigan University’s CPD is unique in the region as a result of the business/entrepreneurship training that we offer. We are also unique in offering our programs fully online!

Bachelor of Science in Dietetics (IDTC)
This is the Coordinated Program in Dietetics. This program is for you if you do not have an undergraduate degree in Dietetics and want to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). We deliver this program both on-campus and online.
Master of Science in Human Nutrition – Coordinated Program Combination (DTCC)
This program is for you if you want to pursue the RD credential and an advanced degree. We deliver this program only online.

Career Opportunities and Program Preparation for CPD
Graduates of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) are prepared to work as Registered Dietitians (RD) in the high-tech field of applying food and nutrition to health. It is a vital, growing area with numerous employment possibilities. Dietitians work in diverse jobs, such as health care, education, research, sales and marketing, public relations, government, and private practice.
High school students planning to major in Dietetics are advised to build a background in food, chemistry, mathematics, and biology.
Community college students should concentrate on prerequisite classes, such as chemistry (including organic), biology (including microbiology), foods, nutrition, statistics, and communication skills.
Program Mission
The Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) at Eastern Michigan University is committed to educating and graduating students prepared for both entry-level and specialized dietetic positions in the areas of clinical, community, and food systems management practice, with an emphasis in entrepreneurial nutrition services.
Through the CPD, students apply and utilize new technologies in their dietetic education; are provided an exceptional learning environment; and are continuously interpreting and responding to nutrition service delivery in a changing healthcare and public health environment.
The Master of Science in Human Nutrition further supports the mission of the Program and the University by allowing didactic program graduates to pursue specialization based on the needs of the community they currently practice in with an emphasis in entrepreneurial nutrition services. The MS also enhances the graduate’s ability to adapt to the changing needs of the environment.
