Requirements:

  • Must be an upper-class student with a B+ or better in the course that you wish to lead
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • You must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits at EMU
  • Professor recommendation is required
  • Must have a sincere interest in helping students learn and a desire to make students more successful

Job Description:

An SIL is primarily responsible for facilitating a minimum of two peer-assisted sessions a week in General Education classes and/or other introductory courses. Major job responsibilities include:

  • Attending class lectures in assigned course every week
  • Taking notes on material covered in the lectures
  • Meeting weekly with the course professor to ensure your understanding of the material and develop a cooperative relationship with your professor
  • Making weekly announcements to the class about SI sessions
  • Preparing, planning and facilitating two to three one-hour SI sessions per week
  • Attending weekly SI Team Leader meetings to continue training
  • Completing the required paperwork by the set deadline
