The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program is an academic support service offered to undergraduate students at the Eastern Michigan University through the Holman Success Center.
SI works directly with classes on campus. Each class for which SI is offered receives a trained SI Leader to facilitate biweekly collaborative study sessions.
SI Sessions are:
SI is offered in a variety of undergraduate courses at EMU. Click on the “Class Offerings” link to the right to see what’s offered for the current semester.
Students who attend SI sessions regularly gain a greater understanding of the material in the respective class. They will also learn study strategies and skills that can be used beyond that class and throughout every semester of college. Furthermore, studies have shown that students who attend SI sessions regularly achieve a half to a full letter grade higher than those who don’t attend!
The SI Leaders who run the sessions are fully trained students that have taken their respective SI class before. They have also received a B+ or better in that class and maintain a solid GPA. Best of all, they’re still students and know how best to deal with all the things students encounter.
