Information Assurance- Undergraduate Program
Eastern Michigan University is now offering an exciting and challenging Bachelor’s degree in Information Assurance for students who seek positions of trust. This unique interdisciplinary program provides flexibility that prepare the student with the foundational education experience in an applied professional track, leading to employment after graduation in the IA field. EMU is a member of the National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. IA courses have been mapped to the Committee on National Security Systems and the National Security Agency Standards of 4011 and 4012.
The term “Information Assurance” encompasses the scientific, technical, and management disciplines required to ensure computer and network security, such as:
- Systems security engineering
- Information assurance systems and product acquisition
- Cryptography
- Threat Vulnerability assessment (includes risk management)
- Computer emergency response team operations
- Computer forensics
- Defensive information operations
- Cyber-crime investigation
- Threat intelligence
The Bachelors program has four unique concentrations: IA Management, Applied IA, IA Encryption, and Network Security.
The unique interdisciplinary nature of information assurance requires a diverse educational approach. Most of today’s computer science programs are not sufficiently prepared to educate tomorrow’s cyber defenders.
The purpose of this undergraduate interdisciplinary program is to:
- Meet society’s need go educated professionals in Information Assurance.
- Provide graduates with the knowledge and skills required to protect the informational technology needs of our national critical infrastructure, which includes all government branches as well as the private sector.
