Frequently Asked Questions
How much
time do I need to spend on IfT?
As much time as you need. IfT is self-paced to meet the needs of educators.
An average of 15 hours of learning activity is expected per module. In other
words, each lesson was designed to be approximately 3 hours long. Knowing that
educators are short on time, each lesson is further divided into sections so
that a few hours each week can be scheduled to complete a lesson. Therefore,
each module will take about a month to complete if 3-4 hours/week is spent
on the module. However, every learner is different. No matter how long it takes,
we hope that IfT will serve as a dynamic resource that grows and changes with
educator's needs.
What if I
have a question about the content or resources in IfT? Can
I make suggestions about improvements to IfT?
Send an e-mail to the Information for Today webmaster at ncopeland@emich.edu.
Of course, your comments (good and bad) are always appreciated.
Should I
let my students use the modules in IfT?
IfT has been developed for professional development purposes for K-12 educators.
Certainly there is information very appropriate for student use in IfT. However,
you know your students. We suggest you pick and choose what is appropriate
for them or use our recommendations from the last lesson of each module, Taking
it to the Classroom.
Why are some
links orange, some blue, and some green?
Each color link designates where the link will lead you. Blue links take you
to another lesson or module in IfT. Teal links bring up a pop-up window or
take you to another Web site along side an IfT skinny window with instructions.
Can I get
graduate credit?
At the present time, graduate credit is not available.
Do I have
to go through the modules in the order that they are listed?
Even though the modules and lessons are somewhat linear and build on information
contained in the previous modules, each contains information that can be accessed
and used independently of information in previous or following modules.
