SSASECT - Canceling a Section

Once the schedule book has been imported into R25, you must cancel a section when the campus, meeting date, or meeting time changes for a section. To cancel a section you must, in this order:

  • remove the instructor
  • remove meeting times and location
  • set the enrollment limit to 0
  • change the status to C
Note: If the instructor, maximum enrollment, or building/room changes, as long as students are properly notified of the change, you can modify the section. Delete a section only if the schedule book has not gone to print.See SASECT - Deleting a Section for more information..

Follow these directions to cancel a section in SSASECT:

    1. From the Banner Main menu, type the form name in the Go To... box press the [Enter] key on the keyboard.

    2. The form is displayed. Type the term code in the Term field.

      Note: To search for a term code, click the Term field pull-down arrow. A list of term codes are displayed. Locate and double-click the code to return to the form and display it in the Term field. See  Glossary of Banner Codes and Fields  for more information about term codes.
    3. Type the CRN you want to work with in the CRN field.
    4. Click the Next Block button on the toolbar.

      Note: You can cancel a section by deleting (removing) in order, the a) assigned instructor(s), b) scheduled meeting time(s), and c) section enrollment information.
    5. Click Meeting Times and Instructor tab.

    6. Click the Next Block button on the toolbar.

    7. Click Record in the menu bar and select Remove from the list.

    9. Click Meeting Times and Instructor tab.

    10. Click Record in the menu bar and select Remove from the list.

    12. Click the Section Enrollment Information tab.

      Note: If the canceled section contains actual enrollment, the academic department must notify the registered students of the cancellation and advise them to register for another section. See SFASLST - Viewing a Class Roster by Term  to obtain a list of registered students.

      The department must also notify the Office of Records and Registration  of the canceled section, so they can manually drop any registered students from the canceled section.
    13. The Enrollment Details block is displayed. Type a 0 in the Maximum field.

    14. Click the Course Section Information tab.
    15. The Section Details block is displayed. Type a C in the Status Field.

      Note: You will not be able to cancel section in which students have already registered. Banner functionality requires that the students be manually dropped from the section before the section status can be changed to C. If you need to cancel a section with registered students, contact the Office of Records & Registration who will process the cancellation for you.
    16. Click the Save button on the toolbar.

    17. When you are finished, click the Exit button on the toolbar to return to the Banner Main menu.
