Service Description

Service Name: Wired Data Network Services
Service Name Synonyms: Wired data, Hardwire connection, data connection, LAN cable, Ethernet, Network Drop, Network Outlet, Data Drop 
Description: DoIT facilitates the design and installation of wired data network services to EMU facilities. DoIT also maintains this infrastructure and coordinates data drop installation, support and repair services as needed.
Availability: 24/7/365, except planned maintenance windows
Eligibility: Departments may purchase additional network outlets to satisfy business needs at any EMU operated location.
Restrictions:

To add a network outlet within a building, the facility must already have an active connection to the EMU data network.

 

All data drop installations must be facilitated through DoIT. Unauthorized installations are not supported, will not be connected to the EMU network and may be removed at departmental cost.

 

Typically, additional wired data connections are not funded centrally and must be paid for by the department.

Support is available through the IT Help Desk at 734-487-2120 or it.helpdesk@emich.edu. Support is provided during the service hours of the IT Help Desk.

Features and Options: In most locations, high-speed data connections up to 1 gigabit are available.
Service Login: Connect the network port of your PC or MAC to an EMU wired data jack to connect to the network. For "public" network access, open a browser and authenticate with my.emich credentials.

Requisition and Approval Process:

Requests for new service can be submitted by sending an email with the appropriate information, as outlined at http://www.emich.edu/it/network/drop_orders.php

 

Data drop repair requests can be submitted to the IT Helpdesk. See "Support" above for details.

Costs and Limitations:

New data drops are funded by the department. DoIT will require an account number to accompany all installation requests.

 

Repairs due to normal wear and tear are funded by DoIT.
