Wireless - Getting Connected
What do I need to get connected?
To access the wireless network you will need the following:
- Windows XP or Macintosh OSX
- Wireless Access card that supports the 802.11b or 802.11g wireless standards
- Appropriate drivers
- A valid my.emich username and password
- Location with wireless access available
How do I get connected?
If you have the required hardware and are in a service area, simply open your web browser and you will be prompted for your my.emich username and password. Once you supply this information, you will be allowed to connect to EMU resources and the internet.
The EMU Wireless Login page:
If your department would like to set up a wireless network access point, contact the Help Desk to obtain the specific equipment security and feature requirements and/or consultation for a wireless environment plan. Email the Help Desk at email@example.com, call 734.487.2120, or visit them at 106 Halle Library.
Where can I get a wireless access card?
You can obtain the necessary wireless network card, drivers, and software at your favorite computer store. The EMU Computer Store (734.487.2400), located within the bookstore in the EMU Student Center, also sells wireless network cards for your convenience. If you find the performance of your wireless connection to be too slow or unreliable, you can try moving to a different area to see if you can get a more reliable connection.
When you are leaving a wireless service area, you may be required to login again once you enter another area (depending on how long you are out of the service area).
Whom can I call for support?
If you are unable to establish a connection with a wireless compatible laptop, you may email the Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org, call 734.487.2120 or visit them at 106 Halle Library. I.T. cannot assist with wireless connection speed or reliability problems.
