DUO Questions

Question:  I don't have cell phone service in my office, so using Duo is inconvenient.

Answer: Duo also works over campus WiFi service.  If you have WiFi and connnect your cell phone to EMU-Wireless-Secure, Duo will work even without cellular services.  If you have absolutely no cellular or network access, you can still click on the key icon next to the “Eastern Michigan University” account in the duo app on your phone, then use that passcode on the duo authentication screen.

Question: What if I lose my phone, or forget it at home?

Answer: We recommend you enroll at least two devices on your account, usually consisting of your smart phone and your landline at your desk.  If you are unable to access any devices, you can always contact IT and have your account temporarily placed in “bypass” mode, which will disable DUO until you regain access to your device(s).

Question:  Can Duo be used to protect my login to my desktop computer?

Answer:  There is not an integration for desktop logins. This is likely because if someone has access to your computer they can do more or less whatever they want even without accessing the Windows accounts, so Duo would need to provide much additional protection.

LastPass Questions

Question: How does "Auto-Fill" happen?

Answer:  For various questions regarding automatically filling user name and password fields please look here: https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=getfeaturefaq&feature=feataure_4.  For information on the Lastpass feature which can fill out forms you can find more information here: https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/fill-form-basics/

Question: What if I forget my LastPass master password?

Answer: You may first try to roll back to your last password, instructions are available here: https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/account-recovery/reverting-your-master-password/.  If you still cannot log in after doing that, you may contact IT and we can reset your password.  Please note that if we reset the password, it will sever the link between it and your personal LastPass account, if you have that set up.  Thus, after you re-gain access to your account, you would need to re-link your personal account.

Question: Can I store my personal usernames / passwords in the EMU LastPass account?

Answer: You may do so if you wish, however, we recommend you sign up for a personal account and put them in there instead, then link the accounts together.  That way, if you leave the University, you do not lose access to all your personal account credentials.

Question:  How do I connect a personal account to my work LastPass account?

Answer: Create a personal LastPass account. Sign in to your EMU Lastpass Enterprise account. Click the Lastpass icon and select My LastPass Vault. Click Link Personal Account on the left-hand menu. Enter your personal LastPass account user name and password. More details can be found here: https://enterprise.lastpass.com/getting-started/link-personal-account/

Question: Can DUO protect my personal LastPass account as well?
Answer: The EMU provided DUO account cannot protect your personal LastPass.  However, you can sign up for a free personal DUO account, and use that to protect your personal LastPass.  For more information, please contact IT.

Question: Should I let LastPass save my master password?

Answer: By doing so, you trade away security for extra convenience.  While we do not recommend you do this, if you do chose to do so, we remind you that it’s extremely important to lock your computer when you walk away from it.  Otherwise, anyone can sit down and have access to all of your passwords!

Question: What if I’m using a different computer without LastPass installed, how can I access all my passwords?

Answer: You can always go directly to www.lastpass.com and log in there to get access to your password vault.  Anywhere that you have internet, you will always have access to your passwords.
