"Mail to" Settings

It is not uncommon to click a "mail to" link when using an Internet browser. When you do so, the browser's default email application opens. To make Gmail the default email application for your browser, click the corresponding link and follow the instructions for opening links in Gmail.

Safari

To make Safari the default "mail to" application for Gmail, you must first set up your email account in Mac Mail. Once you have created your Mac Mail account, follow the instructions below to edit the Mail application preferences and change the default email reader to Google Chrome.

Internet Explorer

  • Install the Google Toolbar.
  • On the Google Toolbar, click the Settings icon.
  • On the left, click the General tab.
  • Under Web-browsing tools, check Use Gmail for "Mail To" links.
