Phone Contacts

The Phone Contacts feature in the Self Care Portal allows you to create a contacts list which populates your phone. Online you can add, edit and delete contacts in your personal address book. Then, through the Contacts/Directories button on your phone, you can search for individuals and dial their number

Note: You will need to create a PIN in the Self Care Portal to access the Personal Directory. Instructions to create a PIN can be accessed from Phone Services PIN located in the navigation menu on the right.

Add Contacts

To add a contact, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Self Care Portal (log in instructions can be accessed from the Log in link located in the navigation menu on the right).
    Note: If you have more than one phone, your contacts will be added to all phones.
  2. In the Self Care Portal, select Phone Settings from the menu on the left.

  3. Click the Phone Contacts drop-down menu.

  4. Click the Create New Contact button.

  5. Add a new EMU employee or a non-EMU contact:
    • EMU Employee - In the Add New Phone Contact pop-up window type a contact's first and last name in the Display Name field. Click on a name from the drop-down list that displays. Add any other contact information you want and click the Save button.

    • Non-EMU Contact -In the Add New Phone Contact pop-up window, type a contact's first and last name in the Display Name field and type a phone number in Contact Methods with no spaces, commas, periods, or dashes. Enter one of the following:
           • EMU 5 digit number (7xxxx).
           • local 7 digit number, preceded by the number "6" (6xxxxxxx).
           • long distance 10 digit number, preceded by the number "8, 1" (81xxxxxxxxxx).
      Add any other contact information you want and click the Save button.

  6. Repeat steps 4 thru 5 to add more contacts.
  7. Click the drop-down arrow next to your name in the upper right corner and click the Sign Out link.

Edit and Delete Contacts

  1. Log in to the Self Care Portal (log in instructions can be accessed from the Log in link located in the navigation menu on the right).
  2. In the Self Care Portal, select Phone Settings from the menu on the left.
  3. Click the Phone Contacts drop-down menu.
  4. Edit or Delete contacts:
    • Click the Edit icon to the right of the contact, edit the content, click the Save button.
    • Click the Delete icon to the right of the contact and click the Yes button.

Dial a Number from Contacts/Directory on Your VoIP Phone

Once you have added contacts to your Personal Address Book in the Self Care Portal, you can search and dial the numbers from the Personal Directory on your VoIP phone. To access your Personal Directory and dial a contact, follow the instructions below:

  1. Press the Contacts/Directories Button on your phone.
  2. Scroll to Personal Directory.
    • If you are not logged in to your Personal Directory, you will need to enter your my.emich username and the PIN you created in CM. (Instructions to create a PIN can be accessed from  Phone Services PIN located in the navigation menu on the right.)
    • Click the Submit button.
      Note: You will remain logged in until you log out of the Personal Directory menu.
  3. Scroll to Personal Address Book.
  4. Press the Select button.
  5. Scroll to Nickname.
  6. Use the keypad to enter all (or part) of the nickname you assigned to the contact.
  7. Press the Submit softkey.
  8. Scroll to the contact if there are more than one listed.
  9. Press the Select softkey.
  10. Scroll to the phone number you wish to dial.
  11. Press the Dial softkey.
