Institutional Values Awards

As part of our ongoing efforts toward continuous improvement, EMU has established the Institutional Values Awards to recognize the exemplary efforts of individuals or teams in working to support the EMU mission, guiding principles and institutional values.

Note, January 2007: While the Institutional Values Awards program is exemplary and has been a very positive first step in officially recognizing and acknowledging the outstanding work EMU's employees do each day, those awards do not go far enough or reach every level of the organization. Therefore, the Human Resources department has been asked to work on developing a comprehensive employee recognition program that will be part of our "Salute to Excellence Week" each year in March. In order to give HR time to develop this program, we will be taking a year off from the Institutional Values Awards process. For more information, call 487-2211.

The Institutional Values Awards are presented in September of each year, during the University Convocation, in up to six categories. Individuals and teams are eligible for consideration in the first five categories; teams are eligible for the sixth:

  1. Continuous Improvement, Innovation and Customer Service
  2. Contributions to the Quality of the Student Learning Experience
  3. Diversity, Human Dignity, Multicultural/International Involvement
  4. Public Engagement and Community Service
  5. Support Role in Teaching, Learning, Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity
  6. Team Excellence

The fourth-annual Institutional Values Awards will be presented during the University's Fall Convocation in September 2006 at Pease Auditorium. Nominations are accepted beginning in February, and are due no later than May 5, 2006. Please review the information on this site for details.

The Institutional Values Awards stipends of $3,500 are funded through the generosity of the EMU Foundation.
