Movie: Food is Heaven

From the steamy kitchens of Canton to the  arid moonscape of the north, food is the very heart and soul of China. But increasing development and dwindling water supplies are threatening the  nation's ability to feed itself. "Food is Heaven" is part three of a 4-part television series, an internationally co-production of the  New York Times, Discovery Times, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, ZDF, France 5 and S4C.   This particular part looks into the impact on environment by increasing  development and dwindling water supplies.

The Lost Truth

The Lost Truth is a pictorial history of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis from 1948 to the present. Come learn about the history and the development of this conflict through a series of photographs, which will be on display in the new Student Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during International Week.
 
International Games by Erik Pedersen

The session will feature interactive games from over 20 countries. Participants are encouraged to try the games, facilitated by Dr. Pedersen.  The games also
reflect grades 1 through 12 in terms of children's skill level, but are fun for adults to try as well.  The games are frequently used for their multi-cultural value and are perfect for education majors to learn about for use in their future classrooms.

Hindu Culture

Hindu civilization is one of the most ancient civilizations of the world. Over the millennia the Hindu culture evolved philosophies, religions, sciences, arts and architecture, contributing to almost every imaginable field of human endeavor. This exhibition is a bird's eye view of the Hindu cultural heritage and the Dharmic traditions of India. 30 posters on different themes include: Basic concepts and way of living, Art, Dance and Music, Contributions in Mathematics and Science, Architecture, Yoga, Hindu Women and more.

A Summer in the Far East

One Village One World

One Village One World (OVOW) is a nonprofit organization that works to unite students, members of religious organizations or groups of interested donors to sponsor African villages to become self- sufficient over a five-year plan.  The villages implement the Millennium Development goals of world-famous economist Jeff Sachs in association with the Millennium Promise Organization. OVOW’s collective donors are notified of the name and location of their village and watch their generosity transform a village through the OVOW website.  OVOW was cofounded by Dr. David A. Victor, Director of International Programs for EMU's College of Business with his wife Dianne Victor and stepdaughter Danielle Still.
 
 
 
Interfaith Discussion

The Interfaith Pair-up Discussion is designed to create dialogue between Muslim and non-Muslim partners who spent time exploring one another's cultures and religious beliefs during Ramadan.  The Pairs were formed after a joint Ramadan Feast last October. They will meet and share what they've discovered. All are welcome.

Evolution of Chinese Characters/Calligraphy

Mystery unveiled – for thousands of years, the Chinese wrote with brushes and ink in styles that evolved from oracle to cursive scripts. The unique art forms can be appreciated by all peoples, whether you speak Chinese or not.

Please join us for a presentation by Dr. David Chang on Chinese Character Evolution and Chinese Calligraphy. The presentation is conducted in English.

Irish migration patterns have traditionally flowed outward, from Ireland to the United States, Canada, and Europe.  However, since 1995 this trend has reversed itself and today almost 10% of the Irish population consists of first-generation immigrants from all corners of the world.  Professor Lisa Laverty examines some of the economic, legal, and cultural ramifications of the changing face of the Irish population

THE JUDGING WILL BE HELD AT 5 PM FRIDAY, 11/17 AT THE TOWER INN

The winner of the contest will have the recipe featured on the Tower Inn menu. Attach your original recipe and drop it off at Office of Nutrition Services [734-487-6572] at 108 Roosevelt by Wednesday, November 15th by 12:00 noon. If the office is closed, there will be a drop-box on the table right outside the office where you can submit your recipe. Open for EMU students, staff and faculty.
