Eastern
Michigan University is collecting
used
cell phones for distribution
to elderly victims of Hurricane Katrina via the
charity Phones for Life. Phones for Life is a
nonprofit organization that collects used cell
phones, chargers and batteries for redistribution
to the elderly for emergency purposes. All cell
phones are programmed to have 911 capabilities
and do not need a service provider to access 911.
Collection boxes are at McKenny
Union, Halle Library, Dining Commons ONE and the
Rec/IM. These phones
will go to the elderly who have been affected
by Hurricane Katrina. Please share this information,
donate a used cell phone, and encourage others
to transfer their used technology (an old cell
phone) and make it a live and vital technology
connection for the elderly. One call may save
a life; one donated phone enhances a life. For
more information, call Bob Teehan, 487-8659, or
VISION, 487-3045.
