Peep Show Collective - Women's Group
Greetings!
We are Veronica and Violet, of the Peep Show Collective, a new local group we are forming for women of all sexualities. We exist to open up a sex positive *(see definition below) discussion of women's sexuality with the hope that dialogue can facilitate in the understanding and acceptance of diverse forms of human sexuality. We hope to dispel cultural myths surrounding women's sexuality by creating a safe, healthy space for women to talk about sex and sexuality.
And to get going, we need to know what women want to know about sex. What information is lacking out there? What turns you on? What turns you off? Where is the kink in the greater A2/Detroit area? What sex centered classes/discussions/resources have you always wished existed in your community?
And if women have a specific sex related questions, we are currently accepting questions for the sex-advice column in our publication soon to be appearing around town...
So send us your questions! Send us your thoughts! Send us an email.
And tell your friends to do the same!
Thanks Everyone,
Veronica & Violet
*Sex-positive refers to the rejection of the dominant view of sex as something shameful and instead embraces all consensual sex practices between one, two, or more adults as healthy and without needing apology or justification. Sex-positive sexuality celebrates the enjoyment of sex and sexuality however-and with whomever-one chooses. It includes looking at diverse sexual practices, emphasizes sexual health and pleasure, and being positive and unapologetic about any consensual sexual practices in which adults engage |

Queer Asian Pacific Legacy is a regional conference of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pan-Asian Pacific Americans to network, organize, agitate, educate, and build capacity.
An unprecedented coalition of groups are planning an ambitious and first-ever multigender and pan-Asian conference that will bring together South Asians, East Asians, Southeast Asians and other APAs; as well as women, transgender, and young people - groups who have been traditionally underrepresented. 250 conference participants are envisioned. Leadership Experience of LGBT Students Study
Attention Lesbian, Bi, Gay, Trans, Queer, Same Gender Loving, and/or Questioning Students
My name is Kris Renn. I am a faculty member at Michigan State University, in a program that provides education to graduate students seeking careers in the field of college student affairs administration. I am also a former dean of student life at Brown University, where my job included providing programs and services to LGBT students. With my colleague Brent Bilodeau - coordinator of LGBT resources at MSU and a doctoral student in my department
- and three other graduate students I am conducting a study of the leadership experiences of LGBT college students. We have begun work at MSU, are expanding to other institutions in the state of Michigan, and are very interested in involving students from Eastern.
The study involves one one-hour interview a semester with a member of our research team. Students who have already been interviewed report that the interviews are interesting and even fun, providing an opportunity to talk about LGBT identity and leadership experiences in and out of LGBT communities. Interviews are always scheduled at times and in places most convenient for the student, so your participation would not require travel or schedule re-arrangement.
If you would be willing to participate in the project - or would like more information before making a decision - please email or call 517-353-5979.

Gay Men Needed for Study about Male Relationships
I am a researcher and doctoral student at the University of Denver, also teaching at George Washington University. I am looking for gay men to participate in a brief survey I am conducting about how men in relationships with other men communicate about sexuality. “Men in Relationships” is examining individual men who have had or are currently in a serious relationship.
If you are 18 to 65 years of age, are currently in a serious relationship, or have recently been in a serious relationship, you may qualify. If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire about your romantic relationships and sexual activities. The questionnaire is downloadable from our website and may be returned via email. Or we can mail you a hard copy questionnaire.
Confidentiality is extremely important to me in my research. All participants’ responses will be kept confidential. As soon as your surveys are received, your name will be separated from your responses. A list connecting names and responses will be kept under lock and key. This list will be available only to me, and will be used only in case of emergency.
If you are interested the study, please check out our web site for more details and to see if you qualify. Feel free to contact me directly via email, or by calling 202-994-6323.

LGBT Student / Youth Travel Survey 2004
The world is opening up, and offers new and fantastic travel opportunities for us every year. Who knew? Gay marriage in Holland. Then Belgium. And now, Canada! It's even cool to have sex in Texas. Amazing.
In our rapidly changing world, every year Community Marketing runs a survey to get a "pulse" on where we are going, where we stay, what we like to do on vacation, etc. We are then better able to advise government tourism boards, visitors bureaus, airlines, cruise lines, etc. to help them better serve our community.
To assist this effort, we'd like to ask you to take our 8 minute survey. It is actually fun to do, and is educational in the process. You might learn something about your travel motivations and preferences--
PLUS new this year, you can VOTE for our "Community Choice Awards." Pick your favorite LGBT travel destination, plus your favorite airline, gay hotel, mainstream hotel, rental car company and cruise line. And tell us why it is your favorite too.
Please use this link to start the survey. You might even win the free airline tickets!
All personal information is held confidentially by Community Marketing, Inc. and will not be sold.
Thanks, and bon voyage! |

Winter Months Volunteering
Washtenaw Rainbow Action Project
Happy New Year! Another exciting year at WRAP awaits us.
The Winter is here, and that means it's time for snow. If you're an able-bodied volunteer, we need your help with snow-removal this season. According to AA City Ordinance, any snow or ice that accumulates before 6 am must be removed by noon from walks and ramps at WRAP.
We'd like to set up a weekly rotation, if you have a week or even a few days to spare to shovel snow at WRAP, reply by email or call the office at (734) 995-9867. The Board Members will also be part of the rotation (this morning Jim Toy was out there shoveling away!). Please help so Jim Toy doesn't have to shovel again! |
DNC's Pride at the Polls Program
Democratic National Committee Office of GLBT Outreach
We are asking you to join us in an important effort designed to increase the visibility and political power of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community.
The 2000 presidential election was decided by less than 600 votes. The GLBT community cast more than 4.2 million votes in 2000. We can and must make the difference in the 2004 presidential election.
The Democratic National Committee's (DNC) Office of GLBT Outreach and the GLBT Caucus of the College Democrats of America (CDA) are proud to announce the Pride at the Polls Program-- an innovative effort designed to educate and register thousands of GLBT voters.
GLBT Pride festivals, which attract hundreds of thousands of GLBT-receptive voters each year, have proved to be one of the most effective venues to reach GLBT voters.
How will it work? Volunteers from all across the country will sign up to be "Table Captains." Joined by DNC and CDA volunteers, table captains will (1) distribute DNC pamphlets on GLBT issues, (2) register thousands of GLBT voters, and (3) help increase the political power of our community. All materials for your table will be available on the DNC GLBT website.
Why Should You Volunteer for the Pride at the Polls Program?
Because we can still be fired in most states for coming out of the closet or for putting a picture of our partners on our desks at work.
Because we are all still the victims of hate crimes and there is still no federal law to help local law enforcement officials prosecute those who attack our community.
Because the rate of HIV infection is rising quickly among GLBT communities of color.
Because schools are still not safe for our GLBT youth.
Because so many of us still do not have access to domestic partnership benefits.
Because many of us still cannot visit our partners in the hospital when they are sick.
Because your political involvement in our community makes us proud; we are only powerful if people know we exist.
Join us as we continue the march to take back our nation in the name of basic fairness and equality for all Americans. Together, we can take back the White House!
To volunteer or to receive more information, please send us an e-mail. |

Hate Crimes
Crimes committed in 2002 due to bias against the victim's perceived sexual orientation represent 16.7 percent of reported hate crime incidents - the highest level in the 12 years since the agency began collecting these statistics - according to data released Oct. 27 in the FBI report "Crime in the United States in 2002." Sexual orientation bias represents the third highest category of reported hate crimes.
Hate Crimes Affect More than Just the Individual Attacked.
All violent crimes are reprehensible. But the damage done by hate crimes cannot be measured solely in terms of physical injury or dollars and cents. Hate crimes rend the fabric of our society and fragment communities because they target a whole group and not just the individual victim. Hate crimes are committed to cause fear to a whole community. A violent hate crime is intended to "send a message" that an individual and "their kind" will not be tolerated, many times leaving the victim and others in their group feeling isolated, vulnerable and unprotected.
According to 2001 FBI statistics, hate crimes based on sexual orientation constituted the third highest category reported and made up 13.9% of all reported hate crimes. Only raced-based and religion-based prejudice crimes were more prevalent than hate crimes based on sexual orientation.
