RefWorks - Transferring References - Gale

New Format Direct Export into RefWorks 

In New Format Gale indexes:

  1. Conduct a search and select the records you want by clicking the check box to the left of each citation
  2. On the right side of the screen, following the phrase Saved Documents, click the View All button
  3. On the right side of the screen, below Tools, click the link Citation Tools
  4. Below Export to third party software: select RefWorks
  5. Click the Export button
  6. If a new windo with RefWorks does not open, below the phrase RefWorks Launced, click the link RefWorks
  7. A new window with RefWorks should open. Log into RefWorks and your records should automatically be added to the Last Imported Folder

Original Format Save as Text File and Import into RefWorks 

In Gale InfoTrac indexes:

  1. Conduct a search and select the records you want by clicking the 'Mark' check box to the left of each citation
  2. Click the View mark list link (left side of screen)
  3. In E-Mail Delivery options, select Abstracts (if available) and e-mail the list to yourself.
  4. Open your word processor/text editor and copy and paste the information into a blank document
  5. From the File menu, select Save As. Save your file as a text file (with a .txt extension) [not a .doc extension] to the location of your choice (e.g. desktop)

In RefWorks

  1. Login to your RefWorks database
  2. Select References/Import from the toolbar
  3. Select GALE InfoTrac Web as the Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple Databases> as the database
  4. Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer
  5. Click Import
  6. Your citation(s) will be imported into the Last Imported Folder. You may now move them into the folder of your choice.
