Holds and Recalls
When an item is checked out, you can use a hold or a recall to request the item:
What is a Hold?
- When you place a hold, the user who has the item cannot renew it.
- When the item is returned, it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk for 10 days.
- You will be notified by email when the item is available.
What is a Recall?
- You can place a recall on an item that is checked out for the entire semester. You can idenitfy items checked out for the entire semester by the due date shown in the library catalog; it will be the last day of the semester.
- A recall:
- Resets the due date to 30 days from the date the recall is placed.
- Notifies the user who has the item of the new due date, and tells them to return the item by that time. They cannot renew the item.
- When the item is returned, it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk for 10 days.
- You will be notified by email when the item is available.
- Exceptions: During the last month of each semester, most users are given the last day of semester as a due date and a shorter loan period as the semester comes to a close. (Due dates for the next semester generally begin 10 days before the end of each semester.)
