The Culture and Language Renaissance of the New Zealand Maori

Te Reo Maori is the language of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. The English language was introduced in New Zealand by British explorers and settlers beginning in the late 18th century, causing decline in the use of Te Reo Maori and deterioration of the Maori culture. In the 1980s a renaissance movement began, rejuvenating the Maori language and reviving the Maori culture. This presentation discusses the processes utilized in the Maori revitalization movement in New Zealand.
