Hot Jobs, Cool Neighborhoods . . . What's Cool to You?

The State of Michigan wants to know what you're looking for in a great place to live and work.

Dear Students and Alumni:

As partners in a ground-breaking effort to make Michigan a state that you and your fellow students and friends would like to call home when you finish your studies, we invite you to take part in an important survey.

You may already have heard about Michigan’s Cool Cities Initiative. This initiative is focused on creating the next Michigan -- a state where people, especially young people, want to live, work, shop and play in its cities. If Michigan is to thrive in the future, our cities must attract the young knowledge workers who are the driving force for economic development and growth. Vital cities will also enhance our effort to preserve the green space that surrounds our metropolitan areas and open up new horizons for urban residents.

Soon you will be making decisions about where you will work and live (you may already be well into this process). Your insight into the factors you will consider when you make those decisions will be very helpful to the Cool Cities Initiative and to all of us working to make this state a magnet for jobs, opportunity and people. A survey asking for your input on these critical issues is available online and should take 10 minutes or less to complete. It can be accessed at www.michigancoolcities.com.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this brief Cool Cities survey. Your feedback and ideas are crucial to us as we move forward to create the future of Michigan.

Sincerely,

EMU President Samuel A. Kirkpatrick
Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm
