The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Planning Committee is seeking two (2) students to serve as the 2018 MLK President's Luncheon Masters of Ceremonies. The selected students will have the opportunity to serve as the official hosts for one of EMU's most recognized events. They will emcee before an audience of over 400 students, faculty, staff, and community members, while enjoying lunch as the guest of President James M. Smith.

We are seeking students who possess the following:

  • Good academic standing, with a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Involvement within the EMU and surrounding community.
  • A friendly disposition.
  • Excellent oral skills and stage presence.
  • TruEMU spirit.

For students interested in applying to serve as one of the Luncheon MCs, submit a formal letter of interest, along with a resume to the MLK President's Luncheon Chair, Gregory Thomas at gthomas5@emich.edu or Co-Chair, Amber Morseau at amorseau@emich.edu by November 8,2017 at 11:59 p.m. The letter of interest must include responses to the following questions:

  • Why do you want to become an MC for the MLK President's Luncheon?
  • How has MLK's legacy inspired and impacted you?
  • What are your academic goals? What year are you in school?
  • What are your involvements and/or leadership roles within EMU and the surrounding community?

The selection process will involve two phases:

1. Review of applicants' letter of interest and resume, and selection of applicants to move to phase two.

2. Finalists will be scheduled for an in-person interview along with a dry-readin of the script.

Selected MC's will be required to attend scheduled rehearsals leading up to the MLK President's Luncheon on January 15, 2018. For any questions, email or call chair Gregory Thomas at 734.487.2277 or co-chair Amber Morseau at 734.487.2377.
