Music Methods Scheduling

Music Education students who have been admitted to the College of Education (or have applications pending approval by January), and planned to take Music Methods within the next year should register for MUSC 330 (vocal) or MUSC 332 (instrumental) in the winter semester.

Effective Winter 2010, the methods sequence has been reformatted into two semesters with beginning methods (MUSC 330/332) to be offered each winter and advanced methods (MUSC 331,333/334) each fall semester.  Classes will meet for 4 hours per week, plus 2 hours/week of observation in the schools, These structured field experiences will become 60 of the 100 required hours of pre-student teaching.  The anticipated schedule will be:

To be eligible for methods, COE admittance is REQUIRED. Current (11/01/09) requirements are:

  1. completion of, at least, 56 hours
  2. overall GPA and music GPA of 2.5 or higher
  3. completion of, and earned grade of C or higher in: ENGL 121, MATH (lower level) and LAB Science
  4. completed COE application
  5. successful passage of MTTC Basic Skills Test #96

NOTE:  The speech & hearing test is no longer required for entry into the teacher education program.
