Graduate Music Audition Application

Email addresses for recommendations from two individuals familiar with your educational and/or professional accomplishments are requested near the end of the form. Please be sure you have this information ready before you begin completing the form.

Graduate assistantship/fellowship information

  • It is preferred that you audition in person at EMU. However, applicants who live more than 300 miles from Ypsilanti can send in an unedited, continuous recording (CD or DVD) in lieu of a live audition (click here for more information).
  • All students will be considered for a music award or scholarship. Priority scholarship consideration for the 2013-14 academic year will be given to students who audition no later than March 15, 2013.

Personal Statement of Academic Goals

All applicants must submit a statement summarizing their plans for graduate study with the Graduate School application. Please provide a copy of that statement here. Applicants for the Master of Music in Music Education or Piano Pedagogy degree should include in their narrative a statement of their teaching philosophy.

Principal Instrument Audition

Required of students applying for the Master of Music in Performance, Music Education, or Piano Pedagogy degree.

 

List the selection(s) you expect to perform on your principal instrument/voice at your audition:

  • Accompanists are not required for instrumental auditions, but are required for voice auditions. Vocalists may bring their own accompanist or one will be provided. Vocalists should contact the Department of Music and Dance at: rpeavler@emich.edu no later than one week prior to auditions if they plan to bring an accompanist.

 

Repertoire List

Required of students applying for the Master of Music in Performance or Piano Pedagogy degree. List composer and title, and indicate those works you have performed in public.

Original Compositions

Required of students applying for the Master of Music in Composition degree. Please submit scores for two original compositions to:

Recommendations (required)

Please provide the information requested below for two individuals familiar with your educational and/or professional accomplishments. These individuals will be contacted by the Department of Music and Dance and requested to complete a brief online recommendation form. You are encouraged to contact the recommender in advance for their permission and to confirm their email address. Incorrect information will delay the processing of your application. In submitting these names, you agree that the recommendation will be confidential and you waive the right of review.
