Marilyn Saker, Professor of Music Theory, coordinates the music theory and aural skills program at Eastern Michigan University. She serves as the Alexander Computer Lab coordinator for three Departments (Music and Dance, Foreign Languages and Bilingual Studies, and Communication and Theatre Arts) and teaches first- and second-year theory and aural skills classes. Prior to her appointment at EMU in 1993, she held positions at Northern Michigan University and Iowa State University.
In 1992, Dr. Saker was awarded a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where Bruce Benward served as her dissertation advisor. She holds a Master of Music degree in harpsichord performance from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano and harpsichord performance from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Marilyn Saker is Bruce Benward's co-author for the seventh edition of his best-selling textbook series, Music in Theory and Practice, published by McGraw-Hill (www.mhhe.com/mtp8). She is a board member for the Macro Analysis Creative Research Organization (MACRO), and is the editor/publisher for the organization's scholarly journal, Musical Insights (www.macromusic.org/journal/list.html).
